Mediation activities

Between two concerts around the world, the Percussions de Strasbourg organise concerts at the Théâtre de Hautepierre in Strasbourg. Around these concerts, mediation activities are carried out in order to discover the universes of the composers and the ensemble but also to practice percussion with the musicians.

EVENING CONCERTS AT THE HAUTEPIERRE THEATRE –

Thursday 8 December 2022 at 8pm
“Best Of Concert” – duration: 2 hours including intermission
Recommended classes: from CP to 3ème
School groups: 7€/pupils, 7€/accompanying adults
Association groups: 7€ reduced rate3€ for Tôt ou T’art members

On the occasion of our 60th anniversary, we are honouring cult pieces from our repertoire, of which there have been many performances during our 60 years of existence, as well as a new creation. In the 1960s, Maurice Ohana and Miloslav Kabeláč paved the way for the composition of pieces for solo percussion. Initially, they were intended to accompany dance performances. Today, freed from dance, they have their own identity and narrative, and bear witness to early research in the field of percussion. Numerous talented composers then embarked on this path, with the complicity and expertise of the Percussions de Strasbourg. Thirty years later, Philippe Manoury created Métal, a sextet for sixxens, the instruments invented expressly by Iannis Xenakis for the ensemble. Always concerned with today’s creation, we also offer the opportunity to discover the work of the young composer Maurilio Cacciatore, who explores and develops the sound possibilities of the vibrating baton, a unique tool in the world, in his piece Corale.

Thursday 9 February 2023 at 8pm
Burning Bright, Hugues Dufourt – duration: 1 hour without intermission
Recommended classes: from 6ème to lycée
School groups: 7€/pupils, 7€/guides
Association groups: 7€ reduced rate3€ for Tôt ou T’art members

Burning Bright is a multi-award-winning work by Hugues Dufourt, a pioneering composer of the spectral movement whose 80th birthday we celebrate this year. The title of the work is borrowed from the poem The Tyger by Wiliam Blake. Conceived as a single piece, like a huge adagio in the manner of Bruckner, Burning Bright is a poetic vision that breaks away from the traditional types of delimitation, contours and fences. The music rises in layers, in sheets, or unfolds in broad and diffuse emergences. The timbres draw their own space of resonance and are arranged in depth, in the indefinite flight of a horizon. The sounds swell, diffuse or twist, intermingling like fluids or gases. The work on the timbre is only an art of retouching. The drift of coloured masses replaces the play of formal configurations typical of the last century. Frictional techniques take precedence over those of percussion. Like Blake’s poem, Burning Bright mobilises the primary energies: a drama without narrative or anecdote, a form that is generated and seeks its unity through telluric tremors. The immense space that we discover, a space in the style of Kubrick, could well become, despite the hopes of our time, that of an eternal confinement.

ACTIONS FOR SCHOOL GROUPS AND ASSOCIATIONS
All the activities proposed below allow for an immersion in the universe of the composers featured in this 22-23 season and to prepare participants for the evening or school concerts. They provide keys to listening to the music.

In preparation for the concert: REHEARSALS WITH GUIDANCE –
Commented rehearsals are organised prior to the performances of the Percussions de Strasbourg at the Théâtre de Hautepierre. Participants can attend work sessions during which the musicians fine-tune the final details before the concert. This is an opportunity to see excerpts from the show and also to understand the different stages of creating a show. They shed light on the many professions in the world of entertainment and provide an opportunity to reflect on and understand the work. Indeed, 20 minutes are devoted to a discussion with a mediator. This is an opportunity to discuss what we have seen and heard, to debate the artistic proposal and to relate it to the experience and feelings of the participants.

European Heritage Days

During the European Heritage Days, the Percussions de Strasbourg opens its doors and organizes guided tours of the Instrumentarium and the premises. These visits, carried out by the musicians, are an opportunity to give musical demonstrations to a large and varied public who discover the ensemble and how it works.
