The title is inspired by a short story by the Brazilian writer Machado de Assis. Almas Agradecidas. At the end of the fourth act it started to rain lightly; in the middle of the fifth act the rain became more violent. When the show ended, each family got into its car; the few who were waiting for a truce, under their umbrellas, found a solution by rolling up their skirts. This piece was composed as part of the research carried out in the Master’s programme, the subject of which is the digital modelling of real sounds for mixed real-time composition. Les âmes remerciées is situated in a fantastic discourse based on the digital and instrumental synthesis of recognisable “cliché sounds” which, when placed in a spatial musical context, are transformed according to a virtualisation and a progressive deformation of reality.
