The WARETHWA research project is a collaboration between Les Percussions de Strasbourg and the timbil player Matchume Zango, focusing on oral tradition, listening and the collective invention of a shared language. WARETHWA, a word from the Chopi language (Mozambique), evokes a relationship based on kindness and attentiveness towards others. The project is based on a simple idea: creating together with others.
This concert, performed as part of the Milano Musica Festival, is the culmination of work developed through residencies in Kanda (Mozambique) and Strasbourg (France). This format offers an immersion in a vibrant dialogue between traditional African instruments (timbila, mbira…) and Western approaches to contemporary percussion. Each concert is thus a truly collective experience, punctuated by participation and listening.
