TIMEPIECE – A Live Speaking Clock

In response to our relationship to time disrupted by the COVID 19 pandemic and its multiple lock-downs, and as a replacement for its grand closing concert (The Long Now), the Maerzmusik Berlin festival is setting up a 27-hour human clock, a live-performance based on the legendary “BBC Speaking Clock”, accompanied by a constantly moving soundtrack. The project, TIMEPIECE, a live speaking clock, is based on a conceptual piece by Austrian composer Peter Ablinger and will take place on March 27 and 28, 2021. Alongside other artists invited to the Festival, the Percussions de Strasbourg will compose and perform a piece that will be integrated into this fateful countdown.
TIMEPIECE is at the same time an artistic monument in Corona-Times, a community project and a manifestation of solidarity for artists and others hit by the pandemic.

TIMEPIECE is built by more than 130 musicians and speakers.
Live on Maerzmusik’s website from Saturday, March 27 at 8pm to Sunday, March 28 at midnight
