Disco-Inspired Musical Comedy
What drives people to flock in droves to bingo games, listening anxiously to the endless calls of numbers before shouting “Quine!” when their card is full?
To explore this inscrutable mystery, Franco-Finnish playwright and director Nicole Genovese sets her new play in the basement of a community hall and entrusts 14 performers with bringing to life slightly disillusioned characters from working-class backgrounds. A neo-absurd and genuinely comic choral social fresco, bathed in a flood of garish colors and kitschy costumes, Diskoteekki decidedly turns its back on melancholy.
