“When the Moon of Mourning Is Set” by Italian composer Carmine-Emanuele Cella stands as the culmination of a musical journey that paves the way for new models of interaction between instruments, performers, composers, and the audience. Conducted in several phases over more than six years, the composer’s research began with compositions for small ensembles (Les escapes physiques), continued with larger ensembles (I am in Blood), and ultimately culminated in a concerto for augmented vibraphone and full orchestra. This final piece incorporates elements from his previous works, notably augmented instruments, spatialization, assisted orchestration, and composition algorithms based on artificial intelligence.
This concert is presented as part of Rai NuovaMusica at the Rai Auditorium “Arturo Toscanini” (Torino, Italy), in a program also presented at the Milano Musica Festival at La Scala in Milan.
