MINIMAL
Pépin, Reich, Bärtsch, Washington, Song

MINIMAL is a recital for two vibraphones and two marimbas exploring the minimalist genre, striking a balance between paying homage to the masters and offering new perspectives. Steve Reich’s famous Mallet Quartet, an iconic figure of the movement, allows us to trace its history, from its inception to its more contemporary influences. Shelley Washington’s Sunday offers a very contemporary take, whilst in Camille Pépin’s work, emotion takes precedence over repetitive mechanics. In contrast, Nik Bärtsch explores the meditative and spiritual aspects of Zen philosophy.
