We are in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, which has become a haven for climate refugees. Longing for the cheerful bingo games of their homeland, the French working-class community gathers every Saturday at the Bingo Halli in their neighbourhood in the hope of winning a prize that might bring some relief to their bleak daily lives. However, in Finland, the atmosphere in bingo halls is rather pathetic. With Diskoteekki (Finnish for ‘nightclub’), Nicole Genovese – known for her theatre of poetic, absurd and socially conscious humour – leads the Percussions de Strasbourg ensemble in a reflection on enchantment. This musical, with the sincere charm of a vulnerable group of people, pays tribute to the solitudes that come together and reveal themselves. Come and discover how a gloomy village hall can be transformed into a nightclub!
