As part of the season opening at the Cité Musicale de Metz, Les Percussions de Strasbourg present a customized program:
Musiques de Tables, Thierry de Mey
Rebond A, Iannis Xenakis
Stamina pour Maracas et Maracas amplifiées, François Papirer
Three pieces, three musicians, three facets of contemporary percussion.
The first side is academic, featuring an iconic composer, Iannis Xenakis. Part A of his piece Rebonds showcases his raw, monolithic aesthetic, composed of the perpetual rhythmic densification of this movement. The second side is surprising, with François Papirer’s piece Stamina for Maracas. Creating a complex and incredibly contemporary piece with an ancient and incredibly simple instrument could have been a challenge. The third side of this isosceles triangle is the theatrical and choreographic percussion of Musique de Tables. An iconic piece by Thierry de Mey, conceived as a ballet of hands, it continues to influence percussionists and composers alike and has become a hit in contemporary percussion.
⏰ Performances at 4:40 p.m., 6:40 p.m., and 8:40 p.m.
